THEMES & METHODS

Fisheries Monitoring & Livelihoods

We conduct fisheries-dependent data collection through market surveys, catch documentation, and socio-economic assessments. We analyse species composition, catch characteristics, and the spatiotemporal dynamics of elasmobranch fisheries, while evaluating the contribution of shark fisheries and trade to household income, food security, and local livelihoods.

Biodiversity & Ecology

We undertake species identification and biodiversity assessments using morphological, molecular, and emerging techniques (e.g. DNA barcoding, eDNA, BRUVS). We investigate population structure, life history traits, and ecological function through morphometrics, reproductive biology, trophic ecology, and habitat use studies to identify critical habitats and better understand species' roles within marine ecosystems.

Participatory Monitoring & Policy

We promote community-based and citizen science monitoring through digital tools and participatory frameworks (e.g. Siren App, Open Data Kit, KoboToolbox). We support evidence-based conservation by evaluating policy, contributing to international frameworks (e.g. CITES, CMS, IUCN), and developing adaptive management approaches that integrate ecological, fisheries, and socio-economic data.
